What is Fusion Audit?

Understanding Oracle’s built-in change tracking system

🎯 Chapter Objective: Learn how to enable auditing in Oracle Cloud Fusion, configure it for Payables and Procurement, verify the configuration by testing real changes, and run Audit Reports to view modification history.

πŸ” What Does Fusion Audit Track?

Oracle Fusion’s built-in audit feature can track specific attributes of any business object β€” recording exactly what changed, who changed it, and when. Every action β€” Create, Update, and Delete β€” on an object and its attributes is captured in the audit history.

πŸ“‹ Business Objects

Any configurable entity in Oracle β€” e.g., Supplier Master, Common Options for Payables, Customer records, etc.

🧩 Attributes

Specific fields within a business object β€” e.g., Bills Payable Account, Bill-to Location, Conversion Rate.

πŸ• Actions Tracked

All three operations are captured: Create (new record), Update (field changed), Delete (record removed).

⚠️ Default Status

Auditing is OFF by default in all Oracle Fusion Applications. It must be manually enabled by an administrator.

3.1 β€” Turning On Auditing in Fusion

Step-by-step guide to enabling Oracle Fusion audit β€” click each step

πŸ’‘ Remember: Auditing is OFF by default. Before you can select which objects to audit, you must first enable auditing at the application level. Click each step below to expand the details.

1

Open Setup and Maintenance Step 1

Also known as the Functional Setup Manager

  • Navigate to the Setup and Maintenance work area (also called Functional Setup Manager)
  • This is the central hub for all Oracle Fusion configuration activities
πŸ“Œ This is where all system-level configurations are managed β€” audit setup lives here.
2

Search for “Manage Audit Policies” Step 2

Locate and open the Audit Policies configuration page

  • In Setup and Maintenance, use the search bar
  • Type “Manage Audit Policies” β†’ Click the link that appears
  • This opens the Manage Audit Policies page
πŸ“Œ This is the single page where all audit configuration for Oracle Fusion happens.
3

Set Audit Level to “Auditing” Step 3 β€” Key Action

This is the master switch that turns on Oracle’s audit engine

  • On the Manage Audit Policies page, find “Oracle Fusion Applications Audit Level”
  • Change the dropdown from None β†’ “Auditing”
  • You can also enable auditing at specific levels for individual items
πŸ“Œ Exam Point: Without setting the Audit Level to “Auditing”, no change tracking will occur β€” even if you configure individual objects.
4

Option A: BI Publisher β€” Configure Specific Products Step 4a

Select which specific application products to enable for audit

  • Click the “Configure Business Object Attribute” button
  • This opens the Configure Business Object Attributes page
  • Use the Application dropdown to see all products available for audit enablement
  • You can enable auditing for specific Financials products such as Payables and Receivables
πŸ“Œ Use this approach when you need granular, product-specific audit configuration.
5

Option B: Applications Core Setup β€” Enable Everything Step 4b

Quick way to enable auditing across all objects at once

  • For Applications Core Setup, tick the “Audit Top Node” checkbox
  • This enables auditing for all business objects under that product
  • Then click Actions β†’ Synchronize
⚠️ Important Note: Synchronization is done per product to finalize audit enablement. Flex Field attributes (chart of account values) are included by default β€” always synchronize after any patch, update, or new attribute addition.
6

Save and Close Step 5 β€” Final

Complete the audit enablement setup

  • Click Save or Save and Close to finalize all changes
  • Audit tracking is now active for the configured objects and attributes
πŸ“Œ After saving, any Create / Update / Delete action on the configured business objects will now be captured in the Audit history.
πŸ’³

3.2 β€” Auditing for Payables

Configuring attribute-level audit for Payables business objects

Key Concept: Even after enabling the “Audit Top Node”, some business objects like Financials OptionVO remain unchecked β€” because you must manually select which attributes within that object you want to track.
1

Select the Financials OptionVO Row Payables Step 1

The Payables financials options object needs manual attribute configuration

  • After enabling Audit Top Node, look at the business objects list
  • Notice that Financials OptionVO is not automatically checked
  • Select the Financials OptionVO row by clicking on it
πŸ“Œ Why? The Payables Financials Options VO relates to the Manage Common Options for Payables and Procurement setup page β€” a critical configuration page. Its attributes must be explicitly selected for audit.
2

Add Audit Attributes via Actions β†’ Create Payables Step 2

Open the attribute selector popup and choose what to track

  • Click Actions β†’ Create β€” the “Select and Add Audit Attributes” popup appears
  • You will see two boxes: Available Attributes and Selected Attributes
  • Move the attributes you want to track from Available β†’ Selected
  • Best practice: select all attributes to ensure full coverage
⚠️ Additional Tip: Flex Fields (chart of account combinations) can be audited simply by selecting the Additional Attributes (Flex Fields) checkbox.
3

Synchronize and Save Payables Step 3 β€” Final

Apply and finalize the Payables audit attribute configuration

  • Click Actions β†’ Synchronize
  • Click OK β†’ Save and Close β†’ Save and Close
  • Repeat this entire process for all other business objects and products that need auditing
πŸ“Œ Synchronize is critical β€” without it, newly added attributes will not be tracked even if selected. Always synchronize after any configuration change.

πŸ“ What is Financials OptionVO?

The Financials OptionVO is a business object that maps directly to the “Manage Common Options for Payables and Procurement” setup page. It controls key Payables settings such as:

  • Bills Payable Account
  • Conversion Rate requirements
  • Bill-to Location settings
  • Payment processing options

Because these are high-impact financial settings, any changes to them should be captured in the audit trail.

βœ”οΈ

3.3 β€” Verifying the Audit Configuration

Testing that audit is working by making real changes and checking the trail

Key Concept: After configuring auditing, you should always verify that it is actually capturing changes. This is done by logging in as a different user, making a controlled change, and then checking whether that change appears in the Audit Reports.
πŸ§ͺ

Test 1 β€” Verify Payables & Procurement Options

Section 3.3.1

1

Login as a Different User Test 1 β€” Step 1

Use a separate user account to make the test changes

  • Log out of the admin account
  • Log in as a different Oracle user (e.g., Casey.Brown)
  • This ensures the audit trail captures a different username for the change
πŸ“Œ Why a different user? The audit trail must show the exact user who made each change. Testing with a different user proves the system correctly records the username.
2

Open Manage Common Options for Payables & Procurement Step 2

Navigate to the setup page that was configured for audit

  • Open the Setup and Maintenance work area
  • Search for the task: “Manage Common Options for Payables and Procurement”
  • Click the link to open the page
  • Select the Business Unit
3

Make Controlled Test Changes Step 3 β€” Core Test

Modify specific audited attributes so the trail can be verified

  • Change 1: Bills Payable Account β€” modify the account number
  • Change 2: Require Conversion Rate Entry β€” enable this option
  • Change 3: Bill-To Location β€” add a new Bill-to Location
  • Click Save and Close
⚠️ These specific changes were made because these attributes were selected during audit configuration. The audit trail should now capture all three modifications with the username and timestamp.
🏒

Test 2 β€” Verify Supplier Master Audit

Section 3.3.2

1

Open the Manage Suppliers Page Supplier Test β€” Step 1

Navigate to the Supplier Master to test supplier-level audit tracking

  • Navigate to: Navigator β†’ Procurement β†’ Suppliers
  • Click the task “Manage Suppliers”
  • From the Manage Suppliers page, search for an existing supplier
2

Update the Supplier and Save Step 2 β€” Test Change

Make a change to the supplier record to test the audit trail

  • In this example: Add an Alternate Name to the supplier
  • Also add an Inactive Date for the supplier
  • Click Save and Close
  • These changes (made by Casey.Brown) should now appear in the Audit Reports
πŸ“Œ The audit trail will show: What changed + Old value + New value + User who changed it (Casey.Brown) + Timestamp of the change.
πŸ“Š

3.4 β€” Audit Reports

How to search and view the captured change history in Oracle Fusion

πŸ“ Navigation Path

Navigator β†’ Tools β†’ Audit Reports

This is the single page where all audit change history can be searched and viewed. It is accessible to users with the appropriate security privileges.

1

Open the Audit Reports Page Step 1

Navigate to the audit reporting tool

  • Click Navigator (the hamburger menu in Oracle)
  • Go to Tools β†’ Audit Reports
  • The Audit Reports search page will open
2

Specify Search Criteria Step 2 β€” Key Filters

Use filters to narrow down the audit results you need

  • Date Range β€” This is required. Select the from and to dates for your search
  • User β€” Filter by a specific Oracle username (e.g., Casey.Brown)
  • Product β€” Filter by product area (e.g., Payables, Receivables)
  • Business Object Type β€” Filter by specific business object (e.g., Supplier, Financials Options)
⚠️ Exam Point: Date Range is the only mandatory filter in the Audit Reports search. All other filters are optional.
3

View Results and Export to Excel Step 3 β€” Final

Review the audit trail and export for further analysis

  • Click the Search button
  • Results appear in the Search Results table
  • Each row shows: Object, Attribute, Old Value, New Value, User, Timestamp
  • Click Export to Excel to download the results for offline review or audit working papers
πŸ“Œ Auditors can use Excel exports to prepare formal audit evidence β€” showing who changed what, when, and from which value to which value.

πŸ“… Date Range

Required / Mandatory filter in Audit Reports. Cannot run the report without specifying dates.

πŸ‘€ User Filter

Optional. Narrow results to a specific Oracle user β€” useful when investigating a particular person’s actions.

🏷️ Product Filter

Optional. Filter by product area: Payables, Receivables, Procurement, etc.

πŸ“€ Export to Excel

Full results can be exported. Used to create formal audit evidence in working papers.
